💬 10 tactical tips for better internal messages

Effective internal communication is critical to most roles in the People department.

Why it matters: The way you format a company announcement could be the difference in a successful program launch or one that is completely ignored.

Below are ten quick ways to improve your next announcement:

1. Know the goal and purpose of your message.
2. Ask yourself, “What is the minimum backstory I need to convey this message?”
3. Ensure the reader knows why your message matters to them as quickly as possible.
4. Use shorter sentences.
5. Write the way you speak.
6. Include GIFs, emojis, bold, and italicized text, to draw attention to certain areas and convey tone (when appropriate).
7. Use indention to help with hierarchy of thought.
8. Format the message appropriately for each medium.
9. Think about the right time to send your message.
10. Make it easy to take the desired action next step quickly.

The bottom line: A little more thought into the design of your message can go a long way in getting more eyeballs and action from your team members.
